Halefresh citric acid has no fillers or additives. Great for bath bombs, as a cleaner, descaling, water softening, rust removal, and toilet bombs. It’s fantastic for cheese making, candy making, wine making and other food uses.
The Halefresh super-tough, resealable pouch is high-barrier and will keep your citric acid dry and safe.
Halefresh premium food grade citric acid has no fillers or anti-caking agents. That’s really just marketing speak because citric acid in general is sold as a basic product without anything added. It is hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs water which explains why you may have purchased some in the past that was either a brick or quickly turned into said brick.
We understand this well and that’s why our pouches have very high barrier properties that not only protect the citric acid from moisture, but also smells, meaning you can store it for months or even a year or more. We have test pouches full of citric acid that are 1 year old with zero clumping. This is part of a commitment to deliver quality you can count on. This means you can “set it and forget it” if signed up to Subscribe & Save, or if you’re buying ahead.
Contrary to what most people think, citric acid produced on an industrial scale is not derived from fruit. Rather it’s produced from a variety of crops including corn, sugar beets or sugarcane. The actual production process involves a slurry produced from the crop and a fermentation process that results in the citric acid. This is a very simplified explanation and technically the resulting product should be the same wherever you go.
However, we have found that certain manufacturers of citric acid don’t care as much as others and the quality just isn’t there. Apart from the usual certificate of analysis (CofA) we have a highly sophisticated method that involves simply looking at the product with our eyeballs :). The manufacturers we like to use have a noticeably cleaner product than others, and we’re quite certain that’s what you prefer as well.

Many all-natural kitchen and bathroom cleaners, contain citric acid to help clean hard water stains. Essential oils add a pleasant citrusy smell. It is commonly used to clean mineral deposits from shower doors, sinks and toilets. Citric acid toilet bombs are also great for removing crud.
Mix citric acid with water for an inexpensive descaling solution. This is an effective descaling solution for Ninja, Keurig, Philips, Mr. Coffee and every other brand. Start with 2 tablespoons per 1 cup of warm water. If you’d rather use a premade solution checkout the descaling solution.
Baking soda, citric acid and Epsom salt are the main ingredients in bath bombs. You can make your own bath bombs – fizzy, effervescent bath soap/salt – using citric acid. The “Alka Seltzer-like” fizzy effect and pleasant smell, is caused by the ingredients reacting with the water.
Citric acid’s properties as a weak organic acid make it a powerful water softener. It breaks down the trace amounts of metal found in water, and is an ideal all-natural choice for treating hard water. You can also add citric acid to home-made laundry detergent if you have hard water.
Citric Acid as a food additive is an effective organic approved (5% or less) preservative found on food/drink labels as “E330.” Halechem citric acid is popular with cheese making, canning, and wine making. You won’t need much of the citric acid to be effective.

Citric acid is a great option to replace commercial and industrial cleaning agents in descaling and cleaning products. It’s effective as a highly potent acid that dissolves limescale deposits without off-gassing noxious fumes or exposing you to hazardous compounds that can cause irreparable damage to your body.
Citric acid is safe to use in the sense that it’s biodegradable and isn’t full of carcinogens that have a laundry list of safety warnings. However, it is a very strong acid and will cause harm if abused or used negligently.
Anything in excess will cause environmental damage, and that includes citric acid. However, unlike industrial cleaning chemicals, citric acid can be safely disposed of using conventional means without donning hazmat equipment. However, it must be adequately diluted if being disposed of. For example, if a large amount is dumped down a drain into a public waste system, if it’s concentrated enough, the citric acid can wipe out the bacteria that digest solids.
Another major benefit of citric acid is that it’s not bioaccumulative, and so you don’t have to worry that your kids will have an EPA superfund site on their hands a generation or two down the road. For a good example of bioaccumulative, think lead, trichloroethylene, chromium, benzene, perchloroethylene, arsenic, and toluene. Obviously, these cannot be disposed of down the drain and instead contribute to the environmental issues plaguing the world.
Citric acid has many uses and this includes everything from descaling and cleaning to bath bombs, candy making, food preservation, cheese making, wine making, various laboratory uses, ph balancing, pest control, and more.
Manufacturers typically list a best-by date of 2-5 years from the date of manufacture. In reality citric acid doesn’t expire and can have a shelf life of 10+ years. All you need to do is test the potency, and to do this you simply check the PH of a solution. Interesting stuff indeed.
Our descaling solution is among the most potent available, and the measuring bottle simplifies your life by keeping things convenient and accurate, and saves you money by providing the most cleaning power for your buck. You can even mix your own if you like. We source NON-GMO citric acid from Columbia and Austria simply because we believe it’s better for everyone, and typically the supply chain includes smaller growers instead of corporate farms and mega corporations.

This was the best coffee maker cleaner I have used. Very simple to mix and after letting it stand in the Stainless Steel pot for a short time before pouring in the coffee maker it nearly totally cleaned it as well.
It really seems to work well, but my Ninja and Keurig coffee machine must be programmed for for 6 – 8 week descaling which comes up almost exactly to the day. We have a osmosis water system which makes the water pretty pure so the water isn’t a problem.
This product works well and does as advertised. The convenient built in measuring device is great and it really did a great job cleaning my very hard mineral deposited commercial Keurig coffee brewer. However, because it works well I suggest cycling the water through immediately because if left for 15-20 min. it could plug up the brewer (it did mine) but I have a clean out so it wasn’t a problem.
My shopping experience was very smooth & easy. I found the product that I needed & checked out pretty fast without any problems. Received the product in a short amount of time & happy with it.
Vinegar and water lasted a week or less. This goes 3-4 weeks before needing cleaning/turn off light.
